The Perfect Shave
If you’re getting tired of razor burn, ingrown hairs and little bumps all over your face, simply follow our tips for the perfect shave. Smooth skin without the pain!
• ALWAYS make sure your blade is sharp – even it means changing it once a week.
• Take a hot shower to open your pores before you shave.
• Wash your face! This prevents any grime from being trapped in your pores.
• Dry your face and neck with a soft towel – pat, don’t rub.
• Use a pre-shave oil. This step is often skipped but it really helps with razor glide.
• Apply and massage a small amount of shaving cream/gel where you plan to shave and create a rich lather – if possible, use a shave brush.
• Do your first shave. Always draw your razor in the same direction your hair grows (with the grain). Begin at the sideburn and work your way down your face. Save the neck for last, giving the oil and cream extra time to work on the thicker stubble. Use long strokes and rinse your blade often.
• Lather your face and start all over. Normally one shave is close enough but going over it twice makes your shave even closer. This time you can go against the grain, but ONLY on the second shave. Use an extremely light tough.
• Rinse your face completely with cold water. Not only does this remove any remaining cream and oil, the cold water closes the pores and soothes your skin. Dry your face with a soft towel and again pat, don’t rub.
• Don’t skip the aftershave products. Even when done properly, it’s still traumatic to your skin. Two types of aftershave: alcohol free toner which is great for oily skin and should be patted on lightly, and moisturizing balm which is good for dry skin and should be gently rubbed in. If you have normal skin you can choose which one you want to use.
